Hi guys, Some of you might say that it was discussed so many times before, but I believe that still not enough  The more we test the better understanding we have about how Vray works with i7 and Xeon CPUs. So I did this pretty simple interior scene for CPU testing. Here’s what I go…

Updated times with Vray 3.10.01 Embree off = 1m15s Embree on = 1m10s (might improve after a reboot as before, but good to see the speed-up with the service pack - well done chaps!) Further exploration: Embree on, bucket width 8 = 1m22s Embree on, bucket width 32 = 1m12s Embree on, bucket widt…

Vray 3.10.01 Dual E5-2695 V2, 64GB RAM, Quadro K4000, 2x SSD in RAID 1m19 without embree 1m12 with

Vray 3.10.01 Dual E5-2680 V2, 64GB RAM, 1m18 embree OFF 1m12 embree ON [FRACTAL_interior_test_01_CPU_dualE52680v2_no_OC_bitmap_paging_OFF.jpg] [FRACTAL_interior_test_01_CPU_dualE52680v2_no_OC_bitmapPagingOFF_embreeOn.jpg]

So less cores but higher clockrates = the same in our case. Damn it I should’ve bought the cheaper one :frowning:

Ok I see the 2697 v2 are around 2900$CAD and 2680 v2 around 1900$CAD which is 2000$ more for a dual workstation! http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8526162&SRCCODE=CANWSHOPBOT&utm\_source=Shopbot&utm\_medium=cpc&utm\_campaign=cse&scpid=19&scid=scsho1296855 ht…

Ok sorry yes 2695v2 are around 650$CAD more for each cpu. They have 12 cores instead of 10 but at 2.4 GHz instead of 2.8. Before buying my cpu I took a look at that chart and I don’t remember exactly how was the numbers when I bought it but it seemed like the best buy for me at the time. https://w…

They are better for rendering, but are worse for artist workstation work. Let me put it this way Saving scene on 2.4 ghz = 30 seconds Saving scen on 4.4 ghz = 15 seconds. You save 30-50% + Time on faster mghz core than if you had 10 more cores. So it depends. If you buy it for render or for wo…
