      Thanks ;D!

as a matter of fact I just did a video tutorial on how to do it. hopefully you'll find it useful. I realized when i made this that I say "uhm" way way to much lol. sorry for that in advance. looks my hopes of being a radio dj are shot lol.

here is the video tutorial rar'd. its a pretty large avi file, but it should explain everything for you

Hey travis did you put your studio lighting bitmap right on the shank? to make it seem more like it was photographed in a light box.

                Re: V-Ray Jewelry

                @jenujacob - Thanks!

@Andre - No it's a standard background map. I think the illusion comes from the material. It's fast rendering, single reflection material so it doesn't have as much depth as a dual layer. I hate waiting for those dual layers to render... they take forever.

Very nice. Good idea to direct post a flash movie. ;D

What did you use to create it? Pano2QTVR?

                    Re: V-Ray Jewelry

Thanks Micha. I used bobyte avi tricks (freeware) to assemble the jpegs into an avi. I then imported the avi into flash and saved it as an swf.

                      • Re: V-Ray Jewelry

I made 3 surfaces in the top down viewport in rhino. applied an emitter material to them and rendered them with clamp output and sub pixel off. After that i saved the image as an HDRI and used it as a background.

Travis would it be possible to tell us your settings on your first animation. I want to know how to make a quality gemstone other than a diamond. thanks

                          • Re: V-Ray Jewelry

The orange spessartite was actually a very simple material. I just changed the refraction color to the orange I wanted and increased the refraction IOR.

The reflection layer is a standard fresnel with top being around 2.4 to give it better env reflections off of the table facets. That's it. ;D

                                another great animation!
this last one does not look like the turntable, what did you use fly or camera path?
would you be so kind to show a screen shot of your curves that the camera follows... I can get a correct path and my anim is not very nice..
                                thanks in advance
