    Very very nice.

How good is the workflow from Poser to Rhino?

      Thanks Micha.

It's actually quite good as long as you use the OBJ format. Since all of posers characters are quad based as long as you port using the OBJ format the quads will remain intact. Once in Rhino the quads keep their UVN's and remapping the character is pretty simple. It's more work chasing down all of the maps than anything else. Just explicit map channel, find the right map and reapply the new material and you're good to go.

T-Splines actually did a fantastic job of converting the obj into a valid polysurface as well. That let me refine some of the mesh tessellation a little in some needed spots where the model didn't have enough subdivisions. It could probably stand to have the shirt converted as you can see some jagged polys in a few spots but it was fun experiment none the less lol

Very interesting, I like the top one. Its a little "toony" which is a stark contrast to the uber real jewelry images we always see. I like it a lot. Was that all done with HDRs?

The only note I have is about the overlay from the viewport. Its a little jagged from the lack of antialiasing, so you might try using the TestSetAALevel command before you do the screen cap. Beyond that it looks great.

Thanks Damien. We get a lot of requests for that style of render from other stores these days. Much of the jewelry industry is converting over to CAD and it's benefits over traditional hand carving. They then want to advertise their CAD abilities and images like these quickly convey to their clients that they utilize and promote this technology.

As for this render itself, its comprised of 3 PNG's. Image 1 being an actual standard jewelry style rendered piece with diamonds and gold and the pink sapphire. Image 2 is comprised of all plastic materials that match the color of the working Rhino Layer that each object resides on, thus the glossy green from the shank. The last image and the one that addresses your suggestions is actually Rhino Render and not a screen capture and here's why.

If you just utilize a screen capture of the viewport you run into problems when you need to do print resolution renders of 300dpi and higher. Rhino Renderer and Flamingo both have a post process feature in their options windows that have a "Render Curves and IsoCurves" check box. This is where it gets a bit limited. I agree that the AA level just isnt there, but.. Changing the AA level in the viewport doesnt seem to get adopted by either of the two other render engines. So.. If i go into the advanced display options and set the curve or edge thickness to be 4 instead of 1 to produce good thick lines and then set the AA level using the beta AA level command it does work in the viewport but both render engines default back to the standard 1 thickness and standard no AA settings when they overlay the wire frame.

I am assuming that this process is a post process as the wires do not raster with the rest of the image, instead you see the typical rastering of the render and then once that has finished there's a brief pause and then bam! in comes the instant wire overlay.

For renders that absolutely can't have the jagged edges on the curves I have been doing those in Max which can render a wire frame with the proper AA levels and overlaying that. That method is a bit of a pain in the ass, but it does turn out nice and smooth. I do like to play with keeping it all under one roof though as clients of ours that do not have 3ds Max that want to do this style of rendering need a solution that can be utilized with the tools they have.

I am curious as to if you guys can pick up on whatever mcneel is picking up on to get that curve/isocurve info overlay. The V-Ray wireframe is certainly much different than Rhino's standard curve display and I really miss having that functionality. Many of our customers do as well.

Sorry for the novel I just wrote lol. Thanks for checking these out!

I should also note that the bottom image rendered in under 2 minutes. My sole purpose in using V-Ray is to drive the wait time into the ground while getting the best results possible. This often means that I am missing many factors that make for truly photorealistic renders but my goal has been to always generate libraries that work in a fast pased environment of doing live presentations to clients where we are constantly designing and rendering on the fly in front of them.

While engines like Maxwell can certainly deliver far more realistic and dramatic images they absolutely cannot even begin to compete in the under 2 minute mark. 2 minutes can be the difference in making or breaking a sale for a compulsive shopper.

For us, V-Ray is unmatched in it's speed for quality abilities. We are so happy with how it fits into the sales counter work flow! And the thing is truly a cash cow!

before the matrix 6 sr1a did you managed to work it out
also it says vray for matrix has some limited features than the vray for rhino what are them and are you missing them

                        thanks for the info

by the way your gold renders lacks shine just as bush's reckless and bloody war lacks truths

                          work what out?

V-Ray for Matrix has IR locked as the primary engine, no photon mapping, no DR and has a max image resolution of 1280 x 1024. Other than that it is the same.

As for the gold, you can put 12 jewelers in a room, ask them to define gold and none will agree. As for your regards for Bush, I can't help you with that but maybe some therapy can.

I mean before matrix 6.0 sr1a matrix crashed a lot especially after sr3 as users say
but after sr1a does that issues worked out

any jeweler in the room can sure say these gold renders lacks shine

and if you ask any psychologist they can sure say bush might use some teraphy to clear out the evil within

I havent had any problems with Matrix 6 since the WIP Betas. Like I said though, you should talk to Gemvision support if you're having issues. That's if you're a Matrix customer.

As for the golds, If you want to whip one up and post it I'd be glad to check it out. I was looking for your gallery to see yours but I couldn't find one. So hook it up and we'll check it out.
