Has anyone benchmarked this scene with Vray RT CPU or CPU+GPU?

Ironically, it crashes on the CPU because of the high GI and reflection depth, so we'll have to fix that first.

It will be interesting to see how the scene renders in 3dsmax 2012 (to be released April 8th). I converted the test scene for use with iray, and had many problems with 3dsmax 2011 crashing because of the scene size (which should not be the case, there is nothing in the scene that should be a problem).

Maybe 2012 will help with rendering also. It's supposed to drastically improve viewport speed and geometry import, which I've had nothing but problems with in 2010 and 2011.

Are both GPUs usable on the dual-GPU cards such as 590? Do they simply appear as 2 OpenCL devices?

1 x 590 = 2 x OPENCL Device but not equal to 2 x580 because GPu freq and memory freq are slower .
              It's a dual low frequenced 580 in 1 box .
very nice to save space and/or pcie slot .

So, has it been determined if the 590/3GB version allows both GPUs discrete access, or is it 1.5GB per GPU?

                Thanks to anyone who knows,

                  i'm 99% sure that's 1.5 per cpu .
like 2 580 1.5gb with less frequency and a badder cooler.
for that price, i prefere to buy 2 580 , but 590 is interesting if you need to save some pcie x16 slots.
take care about 590 drivers, some had already burn a lot of thoose card because they make them eating more than 450W !!

                    • I can confirm the 590 shows up as 2 opencl devices (1.5GB each)

                        • Looks like the new 270.61 driver has had adverse effect on performance:

                          GTX 590

                          1m 54s driver 267.91
                          2m 14s driver 270.61

                          no other changes...

EDIT: Tried again and It's back to 1m 54s with driver 270.61, so I guess I must have had something else affecting performance
