I just wondered if the Max2009 version of this scene was ever created?

    • Let me check what happened with that; we wrote a tool for re-saving .max files from any version to any version, but it's somewhat hacky and I don't know if it will work for that scene...

      Best regards,
      Vlado

oooOOOooo - that would be a very useful tool if it was made public

        • Well, newer versions of 3ds Max can save to older ones, so it kind of made it redundant...

          • Unfortunately didn't work out for this case... will have to redo the scene.

I didn't know that. That's useful to know. Thanks.

For the forseable future, we don't intend to upgrade from Max 2009.

              • Got a new board and so some new numbers. This time I picked up a EVGA GTX 580 3GB.

FWIW, my Palit GTX 460 blew up and took my OS with it. Nastiest BSoD I've seen in a long time! Had to do a complete rebulid of my system (ouch!). They did send me another one, though. I'm gonna throw it up on eBay I think.

So now I'm running a 560i along with the 580...

                GTX 580 -------------512 cores - 266.58 Drivers - 2min 56 sec
                GTX 580 + GTX 560i - 896 cores - 266.58 Drivers - 1min 58 sec

                • 300 cores extra and only 7 seconds less? Thats one bad scalability...

                    • Has anyone converted this scene to work with Maya ?

                      • I don't have it for Maya, but I will post a .vrscene for the standalone a bit later today.

                        Best regards,
                        Vlado

                        • So you can get the .vrscene package here: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/scenes/vr...ch_vrscene.rar

To run it with the GPU engine, pass the option -rtengine=3 to V-Ray Standalone. Note that the scene is intentionally set up to render slow with the production renderer (there are a lot of reflection bounces).

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado

                              • You seem to be missing some textures... I've added the textures to the .vrscene download in my post on the first page.
