Seems like it is fast as Titan X Pascal and only 700$ (compared to 1200$). Most importantly, it will be available everywhere (Titan X was available in very few countries).
1080, 1070 and 1060 got cheaper btw (and some of them got faster memory).

Finally!

I wanted to wait, but I had a project that needed GPU rendering now, and since it was undetermined when/if they were going to be released, I went with 980 ti's classified, which I'm very happy with, OC'd. I'm getting about 1430 on the clock, memory's at 7800 MHz, and 2800-ish cuda's.

The 3500-ish cuda cores and faster clock speed is appealing, although, I'm unsure about that cooler...my 980 ti's have the dual fan acx coolers which I think work well. But the top cards in my boxes run at 80-83 degrees celcius, where as the bottom cards run 10 degrees cooler. Mainly because the top cards have less space for air, and the bottom cards have the PS fan blowing on them. I'm leary about the 1080 ti single fan cooler in a tight spaced position.

Maybe a future project's budget can support the upgrade.

Glad I read this thread and thanks for posting this info. I just bought, for $590, and was about to install a GTX 1080.

I was going to take my first step into GPU rendering using that in my new computer build, in progress. Couldn't bring myself to spend the big $ on a Titan esp. since I have no experience with GPU rendering.... yet.

So now I plan to return the 1080 and for $110 more I can get the new 1080 ti. 11 G versus 8 Gig ram and 35% faster.

I see the new card announced but can't find it for sale anywhere at this time. Supposed,to be available for purchase this week?

Isnt it FE = Stock fan, Turbo = Custom Asus Fan ?

Usually if you are going to stack many GPUs close to each other (like here) you want a "blower" style GPU (like the reference once), since it can suck air from its back and pulls it out from the PC case.
If you have space around the GPU however, it is better to get GPU with more fans (3 for example). It manages to cool better when there are more fans ...
Other than that, most likely there is no major difference between the founders edition and the asus turbo.

Another option I was considering, was putting a liquid cooler on the card that has the least airflow. I'm concerned tho for leaks, so I would probably design the thing where if there were leaks, they would not drip on anything electrical...so maybe rotating the case in some way so leaks would avoid components...just some ideas.

Right now, I'm still going with blowers...but liquid cooling would enable higher OCing.

best option for everyone getting many gpus is putting them outside the case, i did so with risers and no gpus goes over 65 degrees, my zotac now never passes 62, when they were in the case even open they went more than 75, so there is no need for water cooling when your using risers
