I think the LWF pipeline should have been sorted out earlier on instead of focusing resources on RT. I've had a hardly usable (at least for my workflow) piece of software lying around and there's others in a very similar situation. Forgive if I'm wrong, but I was always kind of under the impression that the GPU was a newer and better implementation of RT and that it would eventually get corrected, but it turns out that it's an entirely separate product. Am I the only outsider blindsided by this?
Originally posted by VladoHm, where did you buy it from? I don't think it ever sold for that much.
Originally posted by Donald2BMy whole problem with your argument is that "Fair" is a relative term. I feel their upgrade pricing structure IS fair.
Originally posted by Donalad2BNot to mention the fact that ChaosGroup will be supporting 1.5 until the release of VRay 3.0! How many other companies will do that!?
Originally posted by arobbertIt seems only fair that those that invested early in RT should receive at least a small token discount on the cost of the upgrade. I know there are people using RT with success but I also know there are many who are not for some of the same reasons as I. I guess it's good news for those that waited. Lesson learned I guess I just didn't expect it from Chaos. This reminds of something that Adesk would do. I am disappointed with my purchase of RT especially now that I know the purchase was a total loss.
I'd have to say that even something more similar to what Zeronove said makes more sense. Sorry I'm upset, but I thought the early adopters would be given some consideration here.Last edited by jujubee; 08-09-2010, 05:44 PM.

This time I want to see the world-wide online purchase reseller for upgrade.
I hate the local reseller. They never consider the personal user. They said that their high price has an customer service and offline education and .....
But I have no need them. Actually I have not received any service when after I purchased vray from them.:: twitter :: Portfolio :: My 3D Products :: ...and ::

Vlado, you will be surprised if you had a survey to see how many people belive that RT changed and improved their workflow....in my opinion RT just started to be a useful in SP2, before that was an unfinished tool like in beta stage.
if Chaos still wants to have the same price for RT users, in the future we'll think twice before buying a new product.

I think it's perhaps important to recognize that Chaos group runs a business, and that "fair" is not really the driving factor for these things. Chaos has, by comparison with other render companies out there, perhaps the best support going and offer and excellent product for the price. You can't ask for more "fair" than the support you get from Vlado directly, at all hours, and all days. If you bought into RT and were not able to use it to the nth degree for *your* workflow, well - that's kinda how it goes sometimes. There is no guarantee that any software will fit that bill. I'd love to have even 1/2 the money back that I have spent on software that I can't use fully, or as fully as I had hoped when I bought it - but that is on *me* because no one held a gun to my head and said buy it.
RT does not do everything I would like it to do, and I wish it was more fully developed too, but there is certainly no reason why you could not have used RT to serious advantage over that time. It was only $200 - be reasonable.
If you just bought it, versus a year ago, well that kinda sucks, but that is also how it goes sometimes. In the end, you don't have to buy the upgrade if you don't want.

We, like many others, bought 2 licenses when rt came out. We have tested it few times, but it wasnt working for us.
Now everybody who updates to 2.0 get it free and gpu version also. For me it just doesnt feel right.

I think, nobody here has any doubt about the excellent support from Vlado...The point is far for discussing if we paid $200...in the end, we are showing that we are not happy at all...Chaos can take it or not of course....how knows, maybe in few months Phoenix will be part of vray as well and I would be hit twice.

I agree with the general sentiment from the thread above. I'm a very satisfied VRay and RT user and I will certainly upgrade, but the pricing policy announced today leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Makes me feel like a fool for buying into RT early.

FYI: You can buy a new license of RT (1.5) right now for $299 from Trinity3D. The price of an upgrade to 2.0 is $510 (USD) if bought before Aug. 1 or $190 (USD) or a difference of $320. So anyone who is outside of the August 1st deadline should go buy a brand new license to "save" $21 on the total upgrade cost. That just does not seem right.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.
