I do not want to prime your brain, so i won't tell you what to look for.
The only noticeable difference was a slight color tone difference, I was baking in the gamma prior so that may have contributed, other than that that, the new auto algorithm worked very well.

One issue I did encounter in my initial battery of tweaking and comparing settings back and forth was at some point the the new auto algorithm seemed to have broke, not matter what I was getting a noisy image no matter how much I lowered the noise threshold or loaded setting from previously clean renders from the VFB. I closed and re-opened the scene and the issue was gone.

On the MAX AA, why wouldn't you set it to 100? If you set it too low, I can see the issue, but you can't really set it to high. Isn't the color threshold the only thing you need to worry about? Or, maybe I am not thinking clearly.

Maybe, I am idiot, but you have to at least turn GI on and set the Progressive time to something greater than 1 minute. I keep reading to reset to new default, hit render, and see what happens. Obviously, it'll be dark and grainy as heck.

Was this with Progressive? or Adaptive? Did you use BF+LC or IRR+LC. If IRR+LC, did you use the default?

I did take me about an entire day to get used to the system, it wasn't faster in the end but a hell of alot simpler not having to do the whole balancing act with subdivs that was so time consuming before.

I'm happy and sticking with the new auto algorithm for now on.

What was the resolution and what are your computer specs? I had to cancel mine, after waiting 12 hours for an image that was only 2/3 done.

Okay, thanks. I am rendering this kitchen out at 4K and I have 1/2 the machine you have. Mine is a XEON Dual Quad core (24 cores) with 32G RAM and it's 2.6ghz processor. So, mine should technically take 8X longer, which would still be killer. I'm testing it now.

While I have you on the line. When you reset your render engine, to get the new defaults, is your GI off and Progressive set at 1 minute? If so, everything is good here. If not, something isn't correct for me.

Yes, I had to change the Progressive to Adaptive, I can't remember if I had to turn on GI but I probably did since I had to set it for IM/LC.

Okay, I am not loony then.

If GI has to be on, I wonder why it's not on by default. Also, why would the Progressive be set at 1 minute? I am sure there is a reason. Maybe, Progressive time limit should be 0, along with the memory allocation.

I got some awful GI splotches, in the shadow area, with IM+LC, however, it was fast Using BF+LC does a much better job, but is slower.

I have not installed the update yet, ( I am in the middle of a project) but I have a quick question.
In this new workflow do you need to set Global Sub Mult. to 0 to eliminate any per material/light subdiv. or should I leave it at default 1??
When I merge object made by others, they come with different values for glossy and specs, should I reset those to default 8 or global sub Mult. will take care if it as 3.2 does?

V-Ray handles all that now. You can bypass it, however, it's that way by default.

For me, so far, setting primary engine to adaptive and GI to BF+LC is good; leaving everything as default.
