Gaussian Splats not showing in viewport or render (Corona 14.1 + 3ds Max 2026)

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with Gaussian Splats in Chaos Corona and I can’t get the model to display after import.

I followed the exact steps from the official Corona Archviz YouTube tutorial and the Chaos blog tutorial for Gaussian Splats, but it still doesn’t work.

My workflow:

  • captured footage/photos

  • generated Gaussian Splats in Postshot

  • exported as .ply

  • in 3ds Max:
    Create → Geometry → Corona → CGaussianSplats

  • loaded the .ply file

Problem:

  • after import, nothing appears in the viewport or in the render

  • the object does appear in Scene Explorer

  • I already tried:

    • Zoom Extents (Z)

    • scaling 0.01 / 100 / 1000

    • rotating X 90°

    • Flip Y/Z

    • disabling viewport clipping

    • turning ACES OT off

    • testing in a completely new empty scene

  • Corona is set as the active renderer

Software versions:

  • Corona Renderer 14.1

  • 3ds Max 2026

Postshot export settings:

  • PLY Binary

  • Spherical Harmonics ON

I also followed the exact official workflow from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h-vs_WvNow&t=117s :
Geometry → Corona → CGaussianSplats → load .PLY → adjust flip/scale

Has anyone experienced the same issue?
Could this be a compatibility problem with the PLY format exported from Postshot, or maybe a known issue with Corona 14.1 + 3ds Max 2026?

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi,

There was another report of similar case recently. I believe the solution was re-install postshot. You can read more details here: Postshot 3DGS to corona

Also please try using Corona 15 as we have this item in the changelog:

Fixed loading of certain .ply gaussian splat files.
