Rendering Cosmos models on GPU

A long-standing issue with the difference between the CPU and GPU rendering engines. I specifically bought V-Ray Premium to get access to the additional models in Cosmos, mostly decorative assets like flowers and other vegetation. However, many of the newer models do not render correctly on the GPU because they use Opacity, and instead of transparency the render shows black areas.

Is this problem really that difficult to fix? I’d rather not switch to CPU rendering and lose time just because of a single decorative asset in the scene.

Hello @photohomka ,

Thank you for your report. I tested with some Cosmos assets, but I couldn’t find any discrepancies between CPU and GPU so far. Could you please name some specific assets where the discrepancy is visible?

Kind regards,
Iva

@iva_mancheva Yes, here are four models I’m aware of so far, plus the light fixture (though I don’t have any particular complaints about that one).
I’m working on Mac Studio M2 Ultra, SU 2025, V-Ray 7.00.03 (downgraded from latest update 3 because of memory leaks)

Hello @photohomka ,

Thank you for the report, we have logged following assets to be fixed:

  • Vase 287 004
  • Vase 287 005 001
  • Vase 293 015
  • Vase 287 014 002

As for the Light Wall 004 - I was not able to reproduce the difference you showed. Perhaps you have changed intensity settings or exposure values? If possible, check in the new file with the latest Cosmos update.

I didn’t change anything except the rendering engine itself. I updated V-Ray today to version 7.2.2, and in this test project there’s indeed no difference in the light fixture. However, in the project I’m currently working on, the difference between CPU and GPU is huge.
