Viewport speed test scene (post your GPU and results)

Please put to fullscreen, play animation, count time.

My GPU: Geforce 770 GTX 4GB
Nitrous; 1920x1200
Times: (W-wireframe, S-shaded, S+W-shaded+wireframe)
W: 12s
S: 12s
S+E: 15s

750ti 13/14/17
Max 2014, 1920x1080

should probably mention max version and screen res?
max 2014 x64
2560x1440

geforce 670 gtx 4gb
w:13.6s
s:18.6 s
s+e:20.4s

max design 2015 x64
1920x1080

quadro K3100m 4Go
w:10.1 s
s:10.3 s
s+e:10.9 s

Max Design 2015
GeForce GTX Titan 1920x1200

W: 16s
S: 16s
W+S: 18s

Interestingly, collapsing all objects before playback gives much better results:

W: 10s
S: 11s
W+S: 11s

max 2014 x64
2560x1440

geforce 970 gtx 4gb
w:11.5s
s:11.5s
s+e:14s

max 2014 x64
1920x1080

Quadro K5200
w:37s
s:40s
s+30s

that’s disappointing, shouldn’t it be faster than the K3100m time post by theedge.
just curious what are the specs of your machine?

Hmm tested on my main workstation that has a Quadro 5000 and the results are between 25-35 sec ! Very disappointing.

sorry just to double check, it’s a 5000 not the newer k5000?

but still a better time than eyepiz even newer k5200

Yes an old 5000 not k5000
Now I’m not sure if playing an animation with thousands of objects involves only the GPU. The CPU must have an impact on those times I presume. Or am I wrong ?

Maybe display mode (directX/nitrous) is interesting also;

So here’s mine:
Quadro 5000 (2-3yo); 3dsmax Design 2014; Nitrous; 1920x1200

W: 21 sec
S: 23 sec
W+E: 29 sec

I’ll try this at home on my Quadro K4000 and GTX970 also

3DS Max 2015 x64, Nitrous, 7680x1440 (Triple Monitor), 2560x1440 (Single Monitor Res)

Quadro K5000
W: 17s
S: 17s
S+W: 19s

3ds max 2015 x64
2560x1600

Quadro K4200

W:10s
S:10s
S+W:11s

The machine is 4 days old

PS. Of course I run it full screen and remove the scene explorer tab on the UI

3DS Max Design 2014 x64, Nitrous, 2560x1440, used a stopwatch app for timing.

Quadro K5000
W: 16.3s
S: 16.4s
S+E: 17.9s

I’ve been considering switching to a Titan X, but after seeing Zakkorn’s times I wonder if I should look at the K4200…

@GregM

I wouldn’t try to Match performance from two different versions of Max. I would try the test again within Max 2015 to see if there are any variations.

Also, the K4200 is the next generation of Quadro cards from the K5000…so that may play a part in the results as well.

For viewport performance I would definitely go for the quadro. I already tried to explain that it was way better but all the gforce fanboy just turned me down. Shortly said, when we updated to the quadro k4200, it was more effective than updating our workstations from a i7 2600k to a dual xeon 2670 v2 with the Titan… We could have stayed with our old cpu and just update the gpu actually… Stan

Tried 2015.

3DS Max Design 2015 x64, Nitrous, 2560x1440.

Quadro K5000
W: 15.6s
S: 17.4s
S+E: 18.1s

Somewhat odd results compared to Max 2014, but the overall viewport speed isn’t all that different. Shaded in 2015 was basically a push, wire frame was faster in 2015, shaded was slower in 2015.

Still slow compared to 3LP’s results:

max 2014 x64
2560x1440

geforce 970 gtx 4gb
w:11.5s
s:11.5s
s+e:14s

I have to think a Titan X would improve on this…

Can’t seem to download it right now.

the current fastest test results posted in this thread (using max2014) are with a $300 geforce, and they’re yours too.
