Update: Lot's of change in the side view so it changed the profile quite a bit.

Vlado : this is not GGX but I made a lot of test yesterday. If I wanted to have mostly the same result has now ( wich I like ) I had to use 3 layers of reflection instead of 4 and it render 40% faster That's good. But somehow it's changing a bit the color of the diffuse, I don't know if it's the ggx shader that get the right color or the blinn blend. I will show you today.

In this latest one, her face is looking awesome, but the ear finish looks fake

ear finish ?? It's the same skin as the rest of the face.. mabe because it's a bit blurred ( DOF ) .

Here's new hair shader and color( I dropped the blond strand looked fake has hell I think.. )

here's some test with it, with GI and no GI ( best result is with GI especially if you use dome light.. big big difference..)

It would be interesting to compare render times with and without Embree for hair in the build that I sent you (if you are using HairFarm or Ornatrix, that is).

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Amazing update Bigguns! The skin shader is one of the best, it's there in my opinion - don't touch it anymore!

Not at all! As long as the core V-Ray controls are in the front row and all the tiny tweaks are exposed but somewhat buried in an "advanced" rollout it'll be fine.

              Hi Vlado,

Ok I'm rendering with umbree at on, I will try tomorrow without it to see, now I'm going in the bed in 30 min max and I want to lunch a big render for the night ^^.

By the way Vlado, what should be the best AA for rendering the hairs with the less grain possible and not too slow ? Also I'm using area but I found blackman give a better result..

snivlem: Thank's man me too I like quite a lot the reflection I'm getting now on the skin shader.

Hey Vlado, whith that build of vray it was faster without the embree , it's weird haha

19 minutes ,11 secondes with embree

18 minutes 15 secondes without embree

EDIT : I was still using vray 2.4 for this project.. but to see how MUCH better vray 3 render the hairs ( so much less noise in the hairs!! nothing to compare here! ) faster and better quality ( and also the hairfarm modifier wich is much better, in fact perfect now ^^) that's very nice

and here's a GGX shader test, I could not get the same result as my custom BRDF with only one layer of GGX, I had to do 3 ( and my custom is 4 ) so it's good I saved one layer for quite the same result and it's faster to render
                Here's the GGX version

Hmm, actually Embree does its own tessellation of the curves so I'm guessing if you turn down the number of knots per hair strand, you can still get a very smooth result for faster render times. In any case, if you can get me just the hair part of the scene, it would be very helpful to see what's going on.

Yes, hair should be much better now

                    @Vlado

Ok I put 2 in the tesselation ( by default it's 4 ) I will try it at for and see if it's faster with embree or not, if it's still not, I can send you the hairs if you want, I don't think they have something special thought.

For the raytrace mode of the skin shader, is the implementation of some sors of prepass like in the other mode to help different object with sss2 on it to blend togheter ? I would like to use the raytrace mode for the final image but right now I can't

I will get to that, but it's not in the build that you have. Can you tell me if the objects have the same material applied on them? If yes, then I can do it very easily.

                      Best regards,
                      Vlado

not the same material since it's the lacrymal glande and the eyes, so different mtl and textures sadly.. and the control of the reflection power in the lights, that would be a real time saver Vlado

Yes, that one I'm already working on.

                              Hi there,

                              Big update:

Changed the eye shape (and it fucked up all my sensible surronding area like the eye liquid and lacrymal gland,etc.. I will fix later when I'm sure I keep that shape ) change to the sculpt , added details, modified quite a bit the diffuse, better lips color and integration to the skin face tone, added details around the eyes, etc etc and my new hair shader in action I'm adding a little bit more color variation in the hairs right now and I'm tweaking the eyeborws, they will be better in the nest update, better shape I mean, subtil but there.. at this point it's all about subtility..

better render to come, probably tomorrow
