I think you need to consider that they have nothing to lose by initially creating a high price point for this plugin, and it probably makes sense from a business perspective. The people that really need it will pay for it right away, or the people that just can't wait and love new things to play with. They pay a premium for it, just like you all did with your i-phones when they first came out. Then when the first wave of sales start to drop off, the price will lower to something a little more affordable to the general cg consumer. Right now, I can't really afford to buy any additional plugins, but I would be really tempted if the price came down far enough. I was thinking more along the lines of 50-100 bucks, especially if you look at all the development that has gone into Vray and the relatively low cost of it.

I'm with percy in that most of the time I just use photo grass. But this would be a real life saver for animations, or for really nice detail shots. This makes me feel a little better about not getting too wrapped up in making my own superior looking grass in 3d, with scatter, or forest. Kudos to all of you who did, but I was thinking that eventually something would come along to make this a whole lot easier, and they did!

Looks interesting, but 495$ is way too expensive.

(For the lower priced versions, I will ignore plugins with crippled-rendering)

        Autograss

I don't know guys. I bought it an I feel like I no longer have to worry about grass. I think it already paid for itself and I purchased it last week. One thing I did ask the developer is if I buy it full price today and you lower the price next week will I get the difference. The developer assure me they are not going to lower the price.

Pricing as it is now is OK. The tech behind this is absolutely worth it. I would suggest $275 for a workstation license including 10 nodes (which most freelancers need) and $495 extra for unlimited nodes (since this is probably interesting for larger studios). If you really need unlimited nodes, you probably are making enough money anyway

Happy Digital is a serious developer with a good history, and that has some value for me too !!

                Now explain that to me

Pricing schemes like that are just a matter of getting more money in a sneaky way, there is no other reason than just that. And I am quite sure a lot of people will not pay the extra $495 on top of a single license. There is no reason why a single workstation artist should pay less than a 20 workstations "single" artist cause the development of the plugin is identical for both artists.

I never liked the attitude of price structures like that at all

I don't think Davy should be aloud to make any posts until he finally shows us their plant/scatter solution we've been hearing so much about (mostly from him)

                  Kind Regards,

Thanks Glorybound! I asked Lynn for an option to download and now she placed an option at there site. Firefox will not work well here, to get to the tutorials use Explorer.

I'm now into a demo. As a user of VRayScatter I'm trying to seek after the pro's and con's of Autograss here. Anyone here has experience with both of them? It seems in the first place that Autograss works faster for larger areas........

Autograss works when VRayScatter does not. If you need short (even) grass in very detailled places blade by blade and want to fill areas like square miles VrayScatter just won't work. However if you can get away with clumps of grass (some hundreds of blades) and convert them to a proxy then VRay Scatter may do the job.

I'm thinking you could use this for carpeted areas as well... anyone tried?
