+1 for updated tone mapping options.

    • Any idea about which TMOs you'd like?
Drago, Filmic, Reinhard, something else entirely?
Which characteristics should it have, those of an S-curve, with split highs and lows, and a linear middle, like in Corona?
Or should it be able to tonally compress any range? To 8 bit for a target, or variable?
I'd personally love to hear what's wished for in more detail.

      • Let me put together a list. Might take some time though.

        • Light Mixer

This is such a valuable feature for architectural visualization. Especially on interior scenes. The ability to add lights, dial their values in the VFB and push the values back to the lights is critical.
Additionally, the ease of control in the VFB for post is tremendous.

          • It's been asked a 100 times already It's going to be part of the VFB 2.0 which I hoped was going to be in Update 3 but unfortunately ...not yet.

Another wish: I've opened a colleague's Corona today and an option that definitely should be in Vray too is the ability to "render only masks".

            • I hope to implement the following paper or similar idea in V-Ray.
Strong bump shading polygon artifacts are a complaint of many users.

              • Vrscene importer that allows for scaling of units. This applies to all DCCs and not just max. However, if you export from any app using a unit such as cm and bring into a scene with ft, it will not scale or provide any defected units for auto scaling.

We are using the same thing since Update 2.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

                    Very interesting!
CHAOS GROUP should be announced as a major new feature.

Thank you for information. I will do some testing.

It's in the forum announcement, under "honorable mentions". Why I keep making such posts, when no one reads them

Well you're creating software for visual artists, that's why they like the videos Not all of us (not including me) read the actual changelogs unfortunately. Although in all honesty I knew bump has had an update but didn't know it was changed THAT much. I should make a comparison with an older scene.

And a good deal of engineers and scientists as well!
To be fair, it's hard to be able to cover everything with the videos, because some features make the cut at the very last moment, and/or are very specific to some cases.
                          Objection heard, however!

                            I understand completely

Another wish: integrate some kind of daylight system inside the vraysun (with option do go into a "free" mode as well of course). Right now I have to make the old daylight system and link the sun (not a problem to save this as a seperate scene and merge ofcourse) but to make changes it's a hassle and I always get a warning that skylight isn't supported even though it's not actually being used. One vraysun with these options already integrated (location, north, date and time) would be nice.

                            • A "create ExtraTex" Option when right clicking on a map node in the Material Editor would be awesome.
German guy, sorry for my English.

                              • I couldn't quite do it as you wished it (i don't know how to hijack that kind of stuff with maxscript.), but i made you a simple tool which may make your wait a bit more bearable.
It's fully tooltipped, and quite self-explanatory.

Open the material editor (the traditional version only!), and select a material slot.
If there is a material in the top level, it will create a mtlSelect Render Element of that.
If there is texture in the top level (i.e. you dragged one in place of a material), it will create a vrayExtraTex RE of it.

                                find it attached.

edit: i fixed the "keep unique REs" issue, and managed to properly instance the maps/materials (instead of copying. ugh.)
