  • ***PLEASE POST ALL V-Ray for Rhino 1.0 BUGS HERE***

My current project let me run in this bug. Here a sample scene.

My special hidden-wall method allow me to render small rooms. But today I have seen, that the wall is invisble at the third reflection bounce from inside the room. This is cause bad looking effect: in a small white room chrom objects show black reflections.
After few hours I found the reason: if I setup a filter color, than sometimes the reflected wall disappear. In this example scene the wall disappear if the filter color is below value 204.

the right chrom materials are setup with reflectance color (203,203,203)
The last two days I have setup a scene with "transparent" walls. Until Monday I must render 20 different versions of the scene. Today I see, the "transparent" walls kill the fresnel reflection (reflections are invisible). So my bug report.

Now I start again to create a new setup without walls. The small airplane lavatory has a big mirror. Without walls, the scene is horrible to setup up. Please, make a standard object option "hidden for camera".

... Joe, best you take my last test scene and assign a plastic material to a sphere.

But, I found a workaround. Upps, this was barely a solution. OK, I take a deep breath.
Now, I set my special wall material at 50% transparency (instead 1% befor), set the wall color at double intensity (per texture multiplier or Acolor) and the reflection environment must be black. Now it works, but no reason to let the bug live.

I tested to use this kind of image (www.1000skies.com) as reflection env.
It dosn't work, but I suppose so, it should work. If I set vertical repeat 2, than the image is scaled in the wrong direction only. It's scaled to the bottom, but should be scaled to the top. It could be nice, if the black fill color could be set per env color.

Weired scene: ... I have done several test with smoothing meshes of 3D people and I have done a quick test of the reflection environement. The scene is without sense.

New problem: My scene is a single plane with a textured emitter. Please open my rhinofile with emitter. First it render fast, but if I jump to adaptive QMC mode, than the final pass very much slow down. I never have seen this effect befor. My experience is, that textured emitter render very fast.

Emitter bug: I don't know it is the same bug like I have posted some weeks befor, but I suppose so it is.

I have try to render a display like here. The emitter plane is a mix of a diffuse layer and an emitter layer. The bug is: direct light cause a darker emitter.

                scene and texture file

The rendered window show the influence of a direct ligh source - darkening of the emitter material.

I remember me, that at the VfR beta version we had more options at the "Adaptive Subdivison" options like at the screenshot from the Vray help page - rand and outline are missing now.

Often, if I want to get high contrast with all details in my renderings, than I try to simulate an analog film gradation curve. I can not save the level correction, so I save I must note the values. My problem, often is the high value not readable. I can move the slider very far to the right side and the slider range is new scaled, so that I can see anything. But after a few renderings the slider is scaled back and I can not see the value (see screenshot).

Rand and outline aren't used anymore as far as I know. Or maybe they just don't have an effect in VfR - I can't remember why they were pulled but I think there was a reason for removing them.

I'll see if I have access to these values so they can persist through sessions.

                      • Decals

I recently tried to place mutliple decals into one material but couldn't get it to work. The decals kept on doing strange things. (Like chaning scale and position or dissappearing.) In the end I had to split the surface and put each decal into its own material. Is this a bug or not possible?
You can just see the split line below the top label on the image below.

                        • Render time stamp

Quite often I find when I open an old file the Vray core/render stamp is garbled. Most of the time I have to rewrite it. Only a small problem, but would be good to fix it.

                          Thanks,
                          Gavin

In theory what you are trying to do should be possible - but I believe I also ran into some of those issues. Decals / mapping issues are on our list of things to look into for our SR. I'm not sure if the problems are with us or RCM at the moment, but I will consider it our problem until I find out that its otherwise.

                                Sorry, here I'm again.

Today I play with a scene from here. I'm happy to see that Vray is ready for comparsion with unbiased renderer quality. Now I want to see what I get per VfR.

My problem is, that the LC pass seems to use reflective caustic allways, also if I disable it at the GI options. Only it helps to disable reflection/refraction at the general options.

Screenshots at LC pass: upper image: refraction/reflection disabled at general options - lower image: refr/refl disabled at GI options

EDIT: ... the same for the IM pass, everywhere small caustic dots.

EDIT2: ... same for PPT mode.

EDIT3: ... I find the solution - my mistake - I have set a soft reflection with glossiness 0.5 at the concrete material that cause this white noise at the walls. It's no caustic, it's a blury reflection. Sorry, wrong bug report.
