They had the same units, so I don't think that that's the issue, but thanks.

Better to merge in in chunks and test after each merge. You can narrow down the offending object(s)

I might have to do that. I did delete everything from the scene that I merged, but it didn't help. I tend to merge whole scenes just to grab something from it; deleting the rest. I first had the issue on a kitchen I did; I merged the kitchen scene to grab a light and I deleted everything else. I inherited something bad from that scene, which I am sure got something from another scene I merged in.

If you merge a whole scene and then delete everything except for a few things isn't that extremely dirty work, no wonder things get left behind. The way I do it is, I have an extra max open where I open scenes I need something from. I select everything I need, save selected as a new temporary max and merge that with my scene.

If I am not being lazy I'll open the scene and delete what I don't want and save as.

That workflow will leave some traces behind I think it's better to select what you need and save that selection as a seperate max, that way you only save what you need. If there are things hidden somehow they aren't saved with it.

i have just remebered a great script i used to use, that i will be finding again asap.

let you do a standard copy and paste for max objects between scenes. it was a hack, worked by doing a "save selected" and creating a temp max file, which it then merged when you paste, but worked great if i remember well.

edit: found it! dunno if it still works with latest max'es

Theres another/new version as well called 'Flopitor' (based on Copitor) which we use daily, really handy.

Hahaha omg are you kidding I've been doing this manually all these years. Great info. Thank you guys!

I should be blamed though, my philosophy is, if something is repetitive, there's probably a script for it. Never bothered looking for it though ^^

That script doesn't seem to work in 2015. I didn't find the other one mentioned.

I looked for it on script spot and didn't find it.

Any other suggestions on this issue? It basically stopped all modeling progress.

Have you succeeded in isolating which object causes the issue?

No! I even went back to the original file, but nothing.
