Is V-RAY 3.5 dropping support for 3dsmax 2012? At least for the beta I only see 2013-2017...

I'm getting different behavior between two of the new icons, the 'Active shade' button with the double teapot in the VRay toolbar and the 'IPR' icon in the VFB.

One of the biggest differences is that IPR doesn't use distributed rendering, even if it's enabled. The VRay Activeshade icon does use DR. Can anyone clarify why this might be happening?

      Thanks!

I conducted some tests. Here's a scene with 106 lights (80% IES lights, 20% regular lights). It was rendered on 2 x i7 4930k with progressive sampler set to 4 min. limit. You can see the settings used for each image in the upper left corner. You might want to save them on your PC for better comparison.

          Yes.

And another thing. I can't lock the rendered view with IPR even if I have locked it in Render Setup prior to starting the IPR. Is this going to be fixed for the official version
          Yes, it will be fixed.

We can provide builds for 3ds Max 2012 to anyone that needs them, but we will not have them officially on our website.

We cannot support distributed rendering for production IPR. When you use V-Ray RT for ActiveShade, it can use DR because it doesn't need 3ds Max on the render servers (everything is handled through V-Ray Standalone).

              Vlado

Thanks for these tests! Based on the forum feedback and some more internal tests, we have more or less figured out good default settings for beta 2.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Hi, I am about to connect our HTC Vive to the new 3.5 Live VR Rendering feature. Does the headset control the scene camera or is it "just another screen" where I still have to control the camera via the mouse and keyboard?

Tried emailing support but got this response --

"Unfortunately the oldest version that we support is 3ds Max 2013. No builds for older versions will be created."

Is this just for the beta or in general?

This is for the beta, I believe.

Hi Vlado - Thanks for the response. Is this ever going to change? It would be nice to use DR for IPR. It seems like to me (maybe my imagination?) that Activeshade is a lot slower...I suspect I'm missing a level of understanding about the differences between the two.

                        Thanks,
                        Daniel

On some old scenes Vray 3.5 renders completely black. As soon as I uninstall it and install the latest official release they render fine again.

Would it be possible to send me a scene like this to vlado@chaosgroup.com for debugging ?

Check the VFB white balance when you open the problematic scenes in 3.5. There was a problem with saved scenes with enabled WB and then opened again - it was reset to 0, thus making everything black. Seems that we've missed something in the fix.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done
